June 2026 Oakville Infrastructure & Community Development Update
Commuter Alert & Community Growth: What’s Changing in Oakville This June
As our town continues to grow, keeping up with local road alignments, transit changes, and infrastructure upgrades is essential for avoiding unexpected morning delays. June 2026 marks a major milestone month for several long-term regional projects designed to ease traffic flow and support our expanding neighborhoods.
Whether you drive the Trafalgar corridor daily, commute across the north end, or want to stay on top of recent town council decisions, here is a breakdown of what you need to know about Oakville's changing landscape right now:
1. The Final Stretch: William Halton Parkway Extension
Good news for North Oakville commuters! June 2026 marks the target construction completion window for major segments of the regional William Halton Parkway project—including the new 4-lane road extensions and the highly anticipated bridge spanning Sixteen Mile Creek.
The Upgrades: Drivers can look forward to utilizing a fully operational, multi-lane corridor complete with updated traffic signals, roundabouts, and continuous multi-use pathways and bike lanes. This will significantly ease the cross-town bumper-to-bumper rush on Dundas Street!
2. Ongoing Shifts: Trafalgar Road Phase 2 Widening
If your daily route involves Trafalgar Road between Hays Boulevard and Dundas Street East, keep your eyes tightly on the lane markers.
The Setup for June: All traffic remains shifted to the west side of Trafalgar, keeping two active lanes open in each direction during peak hours.
Important Reminder: The Trafalgar Road entrance to the plaza at 330–400 Dundas Street East stays closed through June (businesses are fully open and accessible via Dundas Street East or Postridge Drive). The east sidewalk and access to the Morrison Valley North Trail at Trafalgar also remain closed, so pedestrians should stick to the temporary west walkway.
3. Civic Recap: Recent Zoning & Development Approvals
Town Hall has had a busy start to the month with major decisions wrapped up at the Planning and Development Council meetings:
Trafalgar Road Residential Changes: On June 1, Council officially approved the Official Plan Amendment (OPA 1213.01) regarding lands at 4233, 4040, and 4180 Trafalgar Road. This opens the door for high- and medium-density mixed-use residential spaces along this growing strip.
Residential Zoning By-Law Overhaul: On June 15, a major statutory public meeting was held regarding a town-initiated housekeeping amendment for lands south of Dundas. The town is moving forward with simplifying "Residential Low" (RL) zoning regulations to make them clearer, update lot frontages, and introduce uniform rules for additional residential units.
🚧 Commuter Tip: Keep an eye out for minor municipal resurfacing projects wrapping up elsewhere in town this month, including carry-over work on Morden Road and Lyons Lane.
