Calgary Thunder Slide Final Ride August 30, 2026

Calgarians have one final opportunity to ride the Thunder Slide at Village Square Leisure Centre before the facility closes for major repairs and upgrades.

The City of Calgary has scheduled the Last Ride Down the Thunder Slide for Sunday, August 30, 2026.

The event will have two time periods: 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 to 6 p.m. The City says the event will include retro admission pricing, a DJ and decorations, bringing back the feel of the Thunder Slide's earlier years.

Village Square Leisure Centre is scheduled to begin its major closure on August 31, 2026, for service-cycle upgrades and other required repairs. The facility is expected to remain closed until the end of 2027.

For Calgary residents who want one last ride before the project begins, August 30 is the date to mark on the calendar.
