Step Into Nature: 4 Hidden-Gem Trails and Parks in Oakville to Explore This June

Did you know that the Town of Oakville maintains over 300 kilometers of active trails and more than 200 parks? For a town known for its gorgeous urban hubs, we are incredibly lucky to be surrounded by massive stretches of lush green spaces, deep ravines, and scenic lakefront views.

With June officially here, the tree canopy is lush, the local wildlife is active, and the weather is flawless for getting some fresh air. Whether you're an avid hiker, a dog walker, or looking for a weekend family picnic spot, here are four stunning spots right here in Oakville you need to visit this month:

1. Lions Valley Park (The Heart of Sixteen Mile Creek)

If you want to forget you're anywhere near a major GTA town, dip down into Lions Valley Park. Nestled in the Sixteen Mile Creek valley, this park features spectacular bridge views, wide multi-use trails, and fantastic playground areas for kids.

  • Insider Tip: Park at the top of the hill off Dundas St. W or at the base via Lions Valley Park Road. The steep valley slopes offer a killer leg workout if you love a challenge!

2. Gairloch Gardens (A Lakeside Oasis)

For a slower, more romantic pace, Gairloch Gardens on Lakeshore Road East is unmatched. This formal English-style garden sits right on the edge of Lake Ontario. June is the perfect time to visit as the extensive rose gardens begin their vibrant summer bloom.

  • Bonus: It is also home to Oakville Galleries, so you can mix a little contemporary art with your afternoon nature walk.

3. The Bronte Creek Trail

Don't confuse this with the Provincial Park (which is also great!). The municipal Bronte Creek Trail runs along the western side of the town, leading you right down to the marina. It offers an incredible mix of dense forest paths and open marshlands, making it a prime spot for local bird-watching.

4. Sunningdale Park (Community Update!)

As many of you saw in the town's infrastructure renewal plans, Sunningdale Park is getting some exciting upgrades over the next couple of years! Keep an eye on this neighborhood staple this June as the community designs move forward—it’s a great cozy spot to watch the neighborhood grow.

Trail Safety Reminder for June 2026: As we share these trails with our local wildlife, please remember to keep dogs on-leash unless you are in a designated leash-free zone (like the popular shells at Postridge Park or Kingsford-Smith Park). Don't forget your tick spray and reusable water bottles!
